Pakistan's airstrike on Afghanistan results in 8 civilian casualties
Pakistan initiated airstrikes in several provinces of Afghanistan on March 18, as reported by Tasnimnews.
At approximately 03:00 local time, Pakistani military aircraft conducted an air attack on Barmal city in Paktika province and Sepiri district in Khost. The targeted area, Lehman, is believed to be harboring the "Pakistani Taliban." Tragically, the attack resulted in the deaths of eight women and children who were residing in a house in the Lehman area.
Residents of Paktiya province reported that the conflict commenced at 07:00 local time, compelling them to evacuate their homes due to rockets fired from Pakistan.
Confirmation by Taliban Spokesman
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, confirmed the airstrikes on Pakistan's border areas in Paktika and Khost provinces. He lamented the loss of eight lives in the attacks, emphasizing that the victims were civilians, not members of the "Pakistani Taliban."
Mujahid condemned the airstrikes as a violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and warned of potential repercussions beyond the country's control. He urged restraint and cautioned against deteriorating relations between the two countries due to the actions of Pakistan's military leadership.
Following the airstrikes, clashes erupted along the Durand Line. The Taliban retaliated by shelling Pakistani territory from the Dand-o-Patan region in Paktia province with artillery and mortars. In response, Pakistani forces retaliated against the Taliban's attacks.
