Uzbekistan and Taliban discuss transit duty reduction for Afghan goods
The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Taliban government, Nooruddin Azizi recently met with Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs to expand trade and investment ties, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan reported on X.com (former Twitter) on March 14.

During the meeting, both parties expressed their commitment to bolstering transit trade and investment initiatives while addressing existing trade challenges. Among the key areas of discussion were the facilitation of Afghanistan's transit cargo through Uzbekistan and the potential reduction of transit duties for Afghan goods entering Uzbekistan.
The agreement reached during the meeting outlines plans for further collaboration between relevant departments of both countries, with a scheduled follow-up meeting in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. The aim of this upcoming meeting is to address impediments hindering the development of trade and transit between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, ultimately fostering smoother trade relations.
Prior to this exchange, Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, held discussions with the Prime Minister of the Taliban movement, Mullah Muhammad Hasan Akhund. During this meeting, Uzbekistan expressed its intention to invest in various sectors in Afghanistan, including the construction of a cement plant, coal mining operations, and the generation of 200 megawatts of electricity from coal.
