The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has recently announced the lifting of restrictions on the export of sunflower and vegetable oil, as confirmed by the press service of the Business Ombudsman.
New Export Guidelines
As per the government decree dated March 13, companies are now permitted to export oil extracted from imported sunflower and cotton seeds. Oil factories have been granted authorization to export up to 50% of the processed sunflower and vegetable oil obtained from oilseeds.
Under the new regulations, the allowable export percentage for sunflower seeds is capped at 35%, while for other oilseeds, including soybeans, it stands at 17%.
Expanded Exports
Furthermore, the restrictions on the export of various vegetable and fruit seed oils from Uzbekistan's customs territory have been lifted, except for sunflower and cottonseed oils, as well as mixed oils.
The decision to ease export restrictions comes after a proposal by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in November 2023 aimed at enhancing the business environment within the oil extraction industry.
Previously, in June 2022, the export of cottonseed, sunflower, and other vegetable oils was suspended by presidential decree to meet domestic demand and stabilize prices. Additionally, export of sunflower seeds and other oilseeds was prohibited, with exceptions made for products processed within the customs zone for export.
