Kazakhstan is making strides in boosting the production and export of sunflower oil, with a staggering 230,000 tons of oil exported last year, marking a 1.7-fold increase from 2021. According to media reports, this achievement is attributed to the 54 enterprises currently operating in the Central Asian country, with a combined production output of over 537,000 tons of sunflower oil.
The acreage of sunflowers is expanding from year to year. For example, 1.09mn hectares were sown in 2022, 66,700 hectares more this year.
The yield is also growing: at the end of last year, 1.3mn tons of sunflower were harvested, an increase of 164,000 tons compared to 2021.
As for sunflower oil production, 253,000 tons were produced in the first six months of 2023. Kazakhstan exported 146,100 tons of domestic products, an increase of 30% compared to 2022. At the same time, imports decreased; 38,700 tons of oil were imported into the country.
In June, the selling price for unrefined oil dropped to KZT 422,500 per ton from KZT 513,400 in March. Similarly, the selling price for refined oil decreased to KZT 631,600 per ton from KZT 701,400 in March, as per the statistics.
