Eldiyar Tashmatov, the newly appointed permanent representative of Uzbekistan at the United Nations branch and other international organizations, has commenced his tenure in Geneva, Dunyo reports.
Professional Background and Career Progression
Prior to assuming his current role, Tashmatov served as the head of the secretariat of the chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. His career in diplomacy began at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations (now the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade) of Uzbekistan.
Over the years, Tashmatov has demonstrated remarkable dedication and expertise, steadily advancing from the position of attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the esteemed role of adviser at the Permanent Representation of Uzbekistan in Geneva.
Between 2017 and 2019, Tashmatov held pivotal positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving as assistant minister, head of secretariat, and subsequently as the head of the organizational and control department.
Since 2022, he has been entrusted with leading the secretariat of the chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, showcasing his versatility and adeptness in diplomatic affairs.
Transition of Leadership
Tashmatov's appointment in Geneva comes as a transition, replacing Ulugbek Lapasov, who has been at the helm of the permanent representative office of Uzbekistan in New York since August 2023.
Earlier, it was reported that Ashraf Khujaev has been designated as the inaugural ambassador of Uzbekistan to the State of Qatar.
