Ashraf Khujaev has been designated as the inaugural ambassador of Uzbekistan to the State of Qatar, Dunyo reports.
Khujaev, a seasoned diplomat, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A graduate of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, the National University of Uzbekistan, and Peking University, Khujaev holds a PhD in Economics.
Career Trajectory:
Khujaev embarked on his diplomatic journey in 2005 within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) system. His early years were marked by service as a referent.
Over time, he ascended through the ranks, serving in pivotal positions. Khujaev contributed significantly to the MFA’s core functions. His tenure in New York involved representing Uzbekistan’s interests on the global stage during his permanent mission to the UN. Khujaev further honed his diplomatic skills while stationed in London as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Great Britain.
Since 2018, he has held the position of Head and Director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His expertise in economic relations and strategic negotiations has been instrumental in advancing Uzbekistan’s interests worldwide.
Uzbekistan-Qatar Relations
On December 11, 2023, the Embassy of Uzbekistan officially opened its doors in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This landmark event signifies the strengthening of diplomatic ties and underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to fostering cooperation with Qatar.
In a reciprocal move, Qatar established its diplomatic mission in Tashkent in May of the same year. This bilateral exchange demonstrates mutual goodwill and lays the groundwork for collaborative endeavors.
