Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, convened a meeting with farmers from the Shardara district of the Turkestan region, focusing on pivotal measures to bolster agricultural sustainability and water resource management, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reported.
Nurzhigitov underscored ongoing governmental initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and fostering the adoption of water-saving technologies. A collaborative effort with the Ministry of Agriculture is underway to escalate subsidies for the acquisition and installation of efficient irrigation systems from 50% to 80%. Additionally, an agreement with the state enterprise Kazvodkhoz has been forged to enable peasant farms to access irrigation water at more favorable rates. Moreover, negotiations with both domestic and international entities are ongoing to introduce innovative water-saving technologies to Kazakhstan's agricultural sector.
Farmers from the Shardara region seized the opportunity to voice their concerns, address prevailing challenges, and offer recommendations. Discussions revolved around the refinement of contractual terms with Kazvodkhoz, particularly concerning water distribution schedules. Concerns were also raised regarding the absence of differentiated tariffs based on crop types and feedback on the IUID-2 project, aimed at enhancing irrigation and drainage systems. Local residents further inquired about the construction of new main canals, group water pipelines, reduction of rice cultivation, and pertinent issues surrounding tariffs and subsidies.
Highlighting the collaborative spirit of the meeting, representatives from domestic and international companies specializing in water-saving technologies showcased their latest innovations to farmers.
Expressing gratitude for the active participation, Minister Nurzhigitov stressed the importance of proactive engagement from peasant farms. He announced plans to augment subsidies by 30%, coupled with a groundbreaking offer from business entities manufacturing advanced irrigation systems. These companies are poised to develop design and estimate documentation, valued at millions, free of charge, while also offering a three-year warranty on their equipment. Furthermore, the state is committed to subsidizing a portion of the expenses associated with infrastructure development, including transformer installation and electrical network expansion.
In conclusion, Minister Nurzhigitov emphasized the imperative of collaborative efforts to preserve water resources. Active interaction between stakeholders, combined with governmental support and innovative technological solutions, remains pivotal in ensuring the sustainability and prosperity of Kazakhstan's agricultural sector.
“For my part, I will say that peasant farms must take the initiative. We are working to increase subsidies by 30%, and businessmen producing advanced irrigation systems are ready to develop design and estimate documentation worth millions for free, as well as provide a three-year warranty on their equipment,” Minister Nurzhigitov shared.
