In response to the accident at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant, the Kazakh Ministry for Emergency Situations reported on February 29 that Kazakhstan allocated 2,000 tons of diesel fuel as humanitarian aid to the Kyrgyz Republic. The first shipment, consisting of 1,000 tons, was dispatched from the Zarya branch of the Reserve national enterprise in 17 tank cars on February 28.
The allocation of diesel fuel from the state material reserve was carried out following the directive of President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev to support the Kyrgyz nation in this time of crisis. The humanitarian cargo is set to be handed over to representatives of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy.
Bishkek Thermal Power Plant accident
On February 2, an explosion occurred in one of the boilers at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant, causing significant damage to the operating equipment of the sole thermal power plant in Kyrgyz’s capital. Consequently, approximately 10% of the city’s residents were left without access to heating and hot water.
