The year 2023 was identified as a milestone for the relationship between Uzbekistan and Qatar. This was a key topic during the meeting between Saida Mirziyoyeva, Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Qatari Foreign Minister.
Summits that took place in Samarkand and Doha were highlighted by Mirziyoyeva as historic events. She noted that these gatherings have spurred both nations to engage in more substantial interactions.
Mirziyoyeva further stated that both countries are keen on fostering development in the humanitarian and cultural sectors, and are enthusiastic about implementing joint initiatives.
Earlier, it was reported that a meeting was held between Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar.
During their meeting, they discussed joint investment projects spanning various sectors including green energy, industry, agriculture, banking and finance, education, healthcare, and tourism.
The potential for cooperation in transport and logistics was also explored. The Qatari head expressed support for the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway.
The state heads underscored the importance of convening a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, and Business Forum in Doha in February 2024.
A decision was made by Mirziyoyev and the Qatari delegation to establish a Coordination Council at the level of the foreign ministers of both countries.
