In a continuation of efforts to address the conflict in Ukraine, the European Union (EU) has introduced its 13th package of sanctions against Russia, which contains Uzbekistan-based company Mvizion.
Mvizion had previously faced sanctions from the United States in November 2023 and from the United Kingdom in December of the same year.
Profile of Mvizion
As per the Uzbekistan Registry of Public Organizations (USRPO), Mvizion was established in June 2022 and is involved in the wholesale trade of electronic and telecommunication equipment, along with spare parts. The company's sole founder and head is identified as Igor Ivlev.
This recent development follows earlier sanctions imposed on Uzbek companies Alfa Beta Creative and GFK Logistic Asia by the EU last summer. These companies had also faced restrictions from the U.S. Treasury for their involvement in purchasing goods for the Russian defense industry, circumventing existing sanctions.
Additional U.S. Sanctions
In a separate announcement, the U.S. Treasury revealed further additions to its sanctions lists. This includes Polar Star Logistics, a transportation company with an office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as well as Maxim Zagornov, a native of Uzbekistan serving as president of the Russian Small Energy Association and director of Business Russia Trading House in the UAE.
About Sanctions
Individual listings
The Council has imposed restrictive measures on an additional 106 individuals and 88 entities for undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity. These new listings primarily target the military sector, individuals involved in arms supply, judiciary members, and those responsible for unlawful activities against Ukrainian children. The EU's measures now apply to over 2,000 individuals and entities. Designated individuals face asset freezes and travel bans.
Import-export controls and restrictions
The Council added 27 new entities aiding Russia's military complex to the list, subjecting them to tighter export restrictions. This includes entities from third countries involved in evading trade restrictions. The EU also expanded restrictions on items enhancing Russia's defense sector, such as UAV components, and imposed further restrictions on exports contributing to Russia's industrial capabilities, like electrical transformers.
