President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring employment opportunities for the youth in the country in a meeting held on February 23. The meeting focused on implementing measures to facilitate youth employment, promote entrepreneurship, and enhance vocational training in line with the nation's strong social policies, presidential press service reported.
Youth-Centric Initiatives
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the centrality of youth within Uzbekistan's social policies, emphasizing the government's commitment to providing quality education, career support, and fostering the aspirations of young people. Notable initiatives such as the "Youth Employment Program," "Five Initiatives Olympiad," and "Cultural Caravan" events are being implemented across neighborhoods to engage and empower the youth.
Targets and Strategies
The government has set ambitious targets, aiming to employ 925,000 young individuals according to the "youth balance," as well as accommodating the employment needs of 300,000 graduates from colleges, technical schools, and higher educational institutions. To achieve these goals, a multifaceted approach has been devised, focusing on entrepreneurship, industrial projects, service sector employment, and skills development in digital technologies.
Efforts are underway to create additional opportunities for young entrepreneurs, with a significant portion of loans allocated under the family business program earmarked for them. Competitions like the "Young Entrepreneur" contest are being organized, with winners receiving training opportunities abroad to further develop their business projects and ideas.
Focus on Information Technology
Recognizing the potential of digital technologies, the government has launched the "Two Programmers from Each Neighborhood" project within the state program. This initiative aims to train 70,000 young people in information technology fields this year, emphasizing the identification of talented individuals and providing them with relevant training in IT professions and foreign languages.
Agricultural Opportunities
In the agricultural sector, efforts are being made to allocate land to young people for farming purposes. Notably, 60,500 hectares of land will be allocated this year, with a focus on effective land use and training in productive crop cultivation. The government is also subsidizing the purchase of equipment, seeds, and seedlings for young farmers through various funds and financial institutions.
President Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of improving land leasing procedures, particularly for agricultural purposes. A decree issued in January aims to put 15,626 hectares of agricultural land up for online auction, with a focus on selecting lands with good water supply and fertility for cultivation of exportable crops.
