The documentary film “Dreamers”, produced by Uzbekistan’s BWG Production, has clinched the title of “Best Historical Film of December” at the esteemed World Film Festival in Cannes. This significant victory paves the way for the film to vie for the coveted “Film of the Year” title at the festival.
A Distinguished Jury
The jury panel was comprised of distinguished professionals from the film industry. Among them were music and film producer Mark Berry, known for his work with Grammy and Juno-nominated artists such as Carly Simon, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, and others. Joining him was Jim Riegel, a three-time Oscar winner for visual effects, recognized for his work on “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The panel was rounded off by producer Stephen Castor, known for his work on films like “Uppercut: The Sparkling Version” and "Uppercut: The Still Version".
An Unprecedented Victory for Uzbek Cinema
Ruslan Saliev, the director of “Dreamers”, hailed the win as unprecedented for Uzbek cinema. He expressed confidence that the film, which delves into the historical pain of the nation, resonated with international audiences. Saliev underscored the importance of such festivals in promoting the country’s cultural heritage on a global platform. He also expressed optimism for future victories and the opportunity to represent Uzbekistan on the world cinema stage.
“Dreamers” triumphed over the English film “The Shamrock Spitfire”, a narrative centered around an Irish fighter pilot during the Second World War.
