President Mirziyoyev reviews achievements of Uzbekistan in sport sector

Sports have gained immense popularity in Uzbekistan, particularly among the youth, who are avid sports enthusiasts. The "Olympiad of Five Initiatives," conceived by the head of the state, has played a pivotal role in promoting physical culture on a broader scale, message states.

Last year, a staggering 6.4 mn young participants engaged in competitions within the framework of this Olympiad. To bolster sports infrastructure in less-developed regions, 449 model sports fields were constructed in remote areas. Furthermore, around 12,000 talented young individuals were identified through five-stage public competitions and subsequently enrolled in sports schools. These schools, each specializing in specific sports, were equipped with new inventory and equipment, contributing to an increase in athletes joining national teams.

In tandem with developing grassroots talent, concerted efforts are underway to prepare professional athletes for international competitions. Currently, Uzbek athletes are actively participating in the 4th Winter Olympic Games for teenagers in South Korea.

Looking ahead, the focus is on the prestigious Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games scheduled to take place in Paris this year. Uzbekistan has secured an impressive 17 and 34 tickets for these events, respectively. The country has diligently created favorable conditions for athletes to secure additional tickets and undergo thorough preparation for the competition.

Preparations are also in full swing for the Asian and Para-Asian Games for young participants, set to be hosted in Tashkent in 2025. The construction of the Olympic town, a pivotal aspect of the preparations, is well underway.

As part of this year's social programs, the ambitious plan includes the construction and reconstruction of 42 sports facilities. The "Olympiad of Five Initiatives" aims to expand its reach, targeting 7 mn participants, and is set to open over a thousand additional groups in sports schools.

President Mirziyoyev, recognizing the integral role of sports education, has issued directives to enhance its development and implement advanced approaches in preparing athletes for international competitions.

Earlier Daryo reported that in an exciting match during the second round of the group stage in the Asian Football Cup, Uzbekistan's national football team clashed with India on Thursday, January 18. The game displayed a demonstration of talent and accuracy, culminating in Uzbekistan securing a decisive 3-0 victory.
