The Turkmen Alabay Ak dost ("Honest Friend"), which was presented by the Turkmen side to the President of Tatarstan (region of Russia) Rustam Minnikhanov in 2021, became the champion of the Russian Cynological Federation in the nomination "Central Asian Shepherd Dog", local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The Turkmen puppy was presented "as a symbol of friendship and brotherhood, commitment to mutually beneficial relations".
The prize-giving ceremony for the championship, in which some 200 dogs took part, was held in the city of Kazan (Tatarstan). Ak dost, who gained experience by participating in several exhibitions and competitions held in different cities of Russia, was honoured in two nominations for his understanding and attentiveness.
The Russian Cynological Federation includes the Federation of Service Dog Breeders of Russia, the Federation of Hunting Dog Breeders of Russia, the Federation of Amateur Dog Breeders of Russia and the All-Russian Union of Public Associations of Independent Dog Breeders.
Minnikhanov's posts, including one about a Turkmen Alabay, have made him a popular blogger among Russian governors. His Instagram account currently has more than half a million followers.
