According to the Statistics Agency under the President of Uzbekistan, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan exceeds $1.0bn in 2023, up from $926.3mn a year earlier. This figure is five times higher than the data of mutual trade in 2017.

In the reporting period, Uzbekistan imported products worth $923.2mn from Turkmenistan and exported products worth $171.2mn to this country. Turkmenistan ranks sixth among Uzbekistan's trading partners.
In recent years, the country has moved towards direct purchases of Turkmen energy, natural gas and electricity.
Ashgabat and Tashkent have agreed to create a border trade zone that will cover the neighbouring areas of Turkmenistan's Dashoguz region and Uzbekistan's Khorezm region.
More than 40,000 Turkmen citizens visited Uzbekistan for business last year, topping the list of foreign business travellers.
