The holding company overseeing the renowned Dodo Pizza chain is set to relocate its jurisdiction from the British Virgin Islands to the Astana International Financial Center in Kazakhstan, as reported by the press service of Dodo Brands.
The decision for this redomiciliation has received approval from the board of directors, with Dodo Brands CFO Lina Naumova stating that an absentee vote of shareholders will take place from January 10 to January 26, 2024, to finalize the decision.
This move follows a recent trend where Russian companies are opting to move their headquarters to Kazakhstan. Notably, both silver producer and gold miner Polymetal and retail giant Fix Price have previously undertaken similar relocations to the Central Asian republic.
Dodo Pizza has been making significant strides in expanding its presence, particularly in Uzbekistan. In August of the previous year, Akmal Raimov, the director of the Dodo Pizza chain in Uzbekistan, expressed plans to open nine branches in Tashkent by the end of 2023. Furthermore, there are ambitions to launch pizzerias in cities like Samarkand and Bukhara this year, marking a continued expansion into various regions of the country.
Earlier Daryo reported that Papa John's, the well-known American pizza chain, is embarking on a strategic venture into Uzbekistan with the introduction of a trial platform, papajohns.uz. The expansion strategy outlines the opening of six establishments in the capital city, Tashkent, affirming Papa John's commitment to establishing a strong presence in Central Asia. The chosen locations include prominent areas such as the Compass shopping center, Tashkent City Mall, Riviera, Dream Park amusement park, Sairam street, and the Minor metro area. Noteworthy is the decision to operate these new outlets under a franchise model.
