The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Nyssanbayev, and Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Kozuki Ryosuke, recently convened for a bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Ecology to explore collaborative efforts in the field of environmental protection, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan reported.
During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the robust economic partnership between Kazakhstan and Japan, with a focus on leveraging Japan's extensive experience in environmental protection and innovative practices.
Minister Nyssanbayev highlighted Japan's pivotal role as a strategic economic partner and expressed Kazakhstan's keen interest in collaborating on environmental issues, forestry development, and wildlife conservation. He emphasized that Japan's expertise could significantly contribute to Kazakhstan's environmental initiatives.
A key development announced during the meeting was the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan and the Japanese Ministry of Environmental Protection. The proposed MoU encompasses collaboration on climate change, waste management, green technology development, and biodiversity conservation. The draft has been submitted to the Japanese side for consideration.
This collaborative effort aligns with the outcomes of the International Climate Forum COP-28, held in Dubai last year, where discussions with Mitsubishi revealed a project focused on artificial afforestation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Minister Nyssanbayev expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to work with Mitsubishi on projects related to wood processing and waste utilization, spanning from fuel pellets to cellulose production.
"In this regard, we are ready and interested in implementing projects together with Mitsubishi in the above areas. Taking into account the potential of our cooperation, we are interested in attracting large investors in the processing of wood and its waste with the launch of various types of production, ranging from fuel pellets, building chipboards, fiberboard to cellulose production," said Minister Nyssanbayev.
Scientific collaboration in the realm of wildlife was also discussed, with a focus on the artificial breeding of wild animals, indicating a comprehensive approach to environmental conservation. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing gratitude and confidence in strengthening mutual cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
