Uzbekistan plans to triple imports of Russian oil through Kazakhstan
Uzbekistan has announced plans to significantly ramp up its imports of Russian oil in transit through Kazakhstan.
The ambitious plan, set to unfold in 2024, involves tripling the current import volume, marking a substantial leap from 154,000 tons to an impressive 500,000 tons per year. This development was revealed by the Kazakh national operator of the main oil pipeline, Kaztransoil, and reported by the TASS news agency.
According to Abay Beisembayev, the director of the Kaztransoil transportation department, the application for this substantial increase was submitted by the Republic of Uzbekistan's Sanoat Energetika Guruhi company. The application not only outlines the desire to triple oil imports but also indicates the possibility of further expansion, potentially reaching up to 1mn tons annually.
Beisembayev stated, "The Sanoat Energetika Guruhi company (Republic of Uzbekistan) submitted an application to Kaztransoil for 2024 for the transit of 500 thousand tons of Russian oil to Uzbekistan with the possibility of increasing to 1mn tons."
Uzbekistan's Energy Minister, Mirzamakhmudov, emphasized the nation's readiness to enhance its import supplies of oil and petroleum products from Russia. This move aligns with Uzbekistan's broader strategy to diversify its energy sources and strengthen economic cooperation with key regional partners.
