A dust storm is expected in some districts of the Mary, Lebap and Akhal regions of Turkmenistan on 12-13 January, Meteorological Journal (Russia) reports.
The wind speed may reach 11-18 metres per second. This is the third time since the beginning of the year that this phenomenon has been observed in the country.
Sand and dust storms continue to plague the northeastern neighbouring Iran, leading to the closure of schools and disruption to rail services.
Iran Fron Page reports that the Сrisis management headquarters of the city of Sarakhs, which borders Turkmenistan, has decided to close all schools in the city and cancel all cargo and passenger travels due to air pollution from dust particles.
