Khujand International Airport has soared to new heights, achieving a historic milestone by serving 1mn passengers for the first time since its inauguration, announced Yusuf Mayusufov, the airport's press secretary.
Mayusufov shared that the airport witnessed a substantial increase in international routes, totaling 3,300, contributing to the record-breaking figure of 1mn passengers. This achievement represents a notable 10% surge compared to the preceding year's count of 910,000 passengers in 2022.
Breaking down the statistics, Mayusufov highlighted that out of the 1mn passengers, 515,000 departed from the airport, while 485,000 arrived, showcasing a balanced usage of the airport's services.
Two years ago, the financial success of Khujand Airport was quantified at over TJS 139mn ($12.7mn). In 2022, the airport contributed significantly to the nation's finances, with a payment of TJS 52mn ($4.7mn), establishing itself as one of the leading taxpayers in the country.
Situated 7km southeast of Khujand city, in the southern part of small Buston, Khujand International Airport is one of Tajikistan's four international airports and holds the distinction of being the country's second busiest airport, following Dushanbe International Airport.
This achievement follows the broader trend of robust growth in the region's aviation sector, as highlighted by Uzbekistan's international airports, which recorded an unprecedented passenger traffic level of TJS 10mn ($915,298) in 2023.
