Uzbekistan has broadened its Tax Free system to include nine international airports, as announced by the Tax Committee's press service. The move, effective since January 3, involves tax service counters at Qarshi, Navoi, Nukus, and Termez airports. Foreign tourists can now seek a partial refund of the Value Added Tax (VAT) on specific goods.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the list of eligible goods for the Tax Free program in November 2022. Covered items include nuts, fruits, dried fruits, textiles, leather goods, fur products, souvenirs, and more.
To access the cashback, tourists must install the Soliq mobile application upon arrival and register. Throughout their stay, visitors should scan receipts for completed flights. During departure, tourists can approach State Tax Committee employees at the Tax Free counter, presenting their boarding pass and purchased items.
For a VAT refund, the total value of purchases must be at least UZS 1 mn ($81.12), and the goods must be in original, undamaged packaging. Tax officials will inspect the items, and depending on the product category, the refund can be up to 90%.
Cashback is credited to the foreigner's account after the 25th day of the month following the registration month. VAT refunds are available within three months of purchasing the product.
The introduction of the tax-free system in Uzbekistan began in January 2023, with counters operational at five airports: Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana, and Urgench.
