In 2024, instructors from the 201st Russian military base are set to conduct training for 1,000 junior specialists for the armed forces of Tajikistan, as reported by the press service of the Central Military District.
The training program, spanning approximately three months, will culminate in cadets performing test firings from standard weapons mounted on combat vehicles, as well as small arms and grenade launchers. This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration between Russian military personnel and Tajikistan's armed forces, which began in 2015. Over this period, more than 7,000 individuals have undergone specialized training.
The 201st military base, Russia's largest military facility beyond its borders, is strategically positioned in Tajikistan, with locations in Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It encompasses motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, nuclear, biological, and chemical protection, as well as communication units.
A video featuring Tajik President Emomali Rahmon expressing dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin over perceived disrespect towards Central Asian countries has gone viral, amassing millions of views on social media. In the video from the summit of leaders from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Rahmon directly addresses Putin, stating that countries in the region, including Tajikistan, have been treated as outsiders and deserve more investment from Moscow. While some praised Rahmon for candidly speaking out, others criticized him for decades-long rule and suggested addressing living and working conditions at home would change Tajikistan's situation.
Earlier Daryo reported that with the goal of boosting educational cooperation, Russia's Ministry of Education is sending teachers in Russian language, physics, biology, and chemistry to Tajikistan. Furthermore, the ministry is facilitating the supply of Russian language textbooks.
