Turkmenistan's 44-metre tall main New Year's tree, erected in front of the Alem Cultural and Entertainment Centre in Ashgabat, has been recognised as the tallest in the CIS countries, local publication Orient reports.
"The country's festive symbol has retained the status of the tallest in the CIS for more than five consecutive years, growing taller every year."
This year, the festive 'green' symbols in the capitals of Armenia (37 metres), Azerbaijan (34 metres), Kyrgyzstan (32 metres), Tajikistan (30 metres), Belarus (28 metres), Kazakhstan (25 metres), Russia (25 metres) and Moldova (20 metres) are next on the list.
