On December 24, President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic arrived in St. Petersburg on a significant working visit to the Russian Federation, marked by his participation in essential gatherings, including the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC) meeting and an informal gathering of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) leaders, his press service reports.
Upon his arrival, the president was met by the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov and other officials.
The SEEC meeting holds substantial importance as it aims to deliberate on tasks and pivotal directions for the ongoing development of integration processes within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) framework, extending its vision until 2030 and 2045. A crucial agenda item includes the anticipated signing of an Agreement on a free trade zone between the EAEU and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Kyrgyz President leads an official delegation, including key figures:
- First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev.
- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeenbek Kulubaev.
- Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Muratbek Azymbakiev.
- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Russia, Gulnara-Klara Samat.
- Minister of Economy and Commerce, Daniyar Amangeldiev.
The SEEC meeting agenda encompasses the approval of decisions essential for the Union's future activities. This includes the endorsement of Board and Court members of the EAEU Commission, defining the primary directions for the Union's international activities in 2024, and outlining macroeconomic policy guidelines for 2024-2025.
Crucially, the meeting will delve into the tasks and directions pivotal for the continued development of integration processes within the EAEU framework, projecting strategies until 2030 and 2045. Additionally, the meeting anticipates the historic signing of an Agreement establishing a free trade zone between the EAEU and Iran.
The informal gathering of CIS member states' leaders will focus on summarizing the outcomes of collaborative efforts in 2023. The leaders will identify key tasks for the future, engaging in discussions on current international and regional affairs.
