Turkmenistan has registered 478 investment projects with the participation of companies from CIS countries worth about $5bn, the CIS Executive Committee reports.
These figures were cited by Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimyradov at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS member states held in Moscow, Russia.
According to him, the volume of Turkmenistan's mutual trade with the Commonwealth countries from January to October 2023 exceeded $2.6bn, compared to $3.2bn in the whole of 2022.
"In recent years, Turkmenistan's trade and economic cooperation with the CIS countries has been noticeably intensified, trade and economic ties are being consistently strengthened, trade chains are being restored, and new markets are being created."
Geldimyradov also noted that his country pays special attention to creating favourable conditions for the activation and expansion of mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as integration into global economic relations.
Experts told Daryo that in 2005 official Ashgabat, referring to Turkmenistan's status of permanent neutrality, decided to participate in the CIS structure as an associate member. In 1999, Turkmenistan withdrew from the visa-free regime agreement with the CIS countries.
