Russia remains committed to further deepening the strategic bilateral partnership with Turkmenistan, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, Valentina Matvienko, said this in a telephone conversation with the head of Turkmenistan's People's Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, noting "the farsightedness of the foreign policy course of neutral Turkmenistan".
The interlocutors spoke in favour of strengthening trade and economic cooperation, as well as socio-cultural interaction.
According to the report, the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission will be held in Ashgabat early next year.
During the conversation it was noted that the upcoming Russian presidential elections in March next year will be an important stage in the implementation of political, economic and social reforms.
"A firm conviction was expressed that the multinational people of Russia will make the right historical choice and thus determine the fate of many generations of Russians in the long term."
In recent years, Turkmenistan has actively cooperated with Russian regions such as St Petersburg, Tatarstan and Astrakhan.
About 200 companies with Russian capital are registered in the local market. The leading partners include KAMAZ, Tatneft, Vozrozhdenie and Gazprom.
