Uzbekistan is on the verge of a significant milestone in renewable energy as it prepares to launch its first wind power generation facilities. The press secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Hassan Tashkhodzhayev, announced this development.
On December 18, Tashkhodzhayev shared a video from a power plant under construction in the Navoi region. The video showcased six rotating turbines against the backdrop of distant power lines, marking the commencement of test operations at the first wind farm in the Tamdyn district.
This 500 MW power plant is a project by Masdar, a leading energy company from the United Arab Emirates. Masdar emerged as the winner of a tender in October 2020 and subsequently signed a contract with China’s Goldwind two years later for the supply of 111 turbines, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW.
The wind farm is scheduled for full operation in 2024. Upon completion, it will contribute 1.9 GWh to the power grid annually. This output is expected to meet the energy needs of over 500,000 households. Moreover, it will result in a saving of 175 mn cubic meters of gas and a reduction in atmospheric emissions by 1.1 mn tons, underscoring the environmental benefits of this project.
