Uzbekistan has announced its withdrawal from the protocol on unification and avoidance of double taxation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The decree is publicly accessible on the Lex.uz.
The protocol, signed by the leaders of the CIS countries in Tashkent in May 1992, pertained to taxes on profits, income, and property. The Tax Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan is tasked with overseeing the implementation of this decree.
This move comes as Uzbekistan and the United States express mutual interest in developing an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation. This issue was a topic of discussion between representatives of the two countries in early September 2023.
Uzbekistan has already signed bilateral agreements with 54 countries on the avoidance of double taxation. The United States considers its 1973 U.S.-USSR tax treaty as in force regarding Uzbekistan, while the Government of Uzbekistan does not.
