On November 27, Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the inauguration of a state-of-the-art steam-gas power plant with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts in the Syrdarya region. The project, executed in collaboration with the prominent Saudi company ACWA Power, was described by the president in his address as a distinctive benchmark initiative in Uzbekistan's energy sector.
"The newly launched Syrdarya thermal power plant is an unparalleled reference project in Uzbekistan's energy landscape and will significantly contribute to our country's economic development," remarked the president during the ceremony. Notably, the construction of this expansive, modern, and energy-efficient facility was accomplished within a remarkably short timeframe, without state guarantees, relying solely on direct investments, and maintaining high-quality standards. Valued at $1.1bn and boasting a capacity of 1.5GW, the plant is poised to meet the electricity demands of 3mn households and numerous industrial enterprises.
The project featured the engagement of China Energy, one of the world's largest Chinese companies, as the primary contractor, while the Japanese company Mitsubishi expedited the delivery of cutting-edge technologies despite challenging conditions.
"These endeavors will significantly contribute to achieving our ambitious targets, aiming to establish 25GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. These vital projects will modernize the energy sector, resulting in a saving of 4.5bn m³ of natural gas and preventing the emission of approximately 3mn tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere," emphasized the head of state.
The strategic energy sector of Uzbekistan is currently witnessing the effective implementation of substantial projects valued at $8bn, all facilitated through the active involvement of ACWA Power.
