Turkmenistan is carrying out a scheme named "Enhancing Small Cattle Farming Efficiency to Minimise Greenhouse Gas Emission Levels".
(More than 30% of global warming gases come from farms, according to scientists. The majority of these gases are in the form of methane, which animals produce during digestion. Emissions from pastures make up 16%, while fertilisers account for 6% - Daryo).
The website "Turkmenistan: Altyn Asyr" says that a team from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has come to the country. They are working on a project to prepare for future actions, with a focus on the Dashoguz area.
"It is planned to visit the territory of pasture stands to familiarise with the conditions of local distant pastures".
The delegation includes specialists in the field of animal husbandry and feeding of small ruminants, pasture vegetation and biodiversity, integrated landscape management, development of grazing plans and work with remote sensing data.
Meetings are planned with representatives of relevant agencies and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.
"The project aims to improve livestock production through climate-optimised fodder production, improved pasture and natural resource management."
