Turkmenistan's Ambassador Shadurdy Meredov, has met with the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Upper House of Parliament) of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
"The parties noted that as a result of the constructive and mutually trusting dialogue established between the leadership of the two states, Turkmen-Uzbek relations have reached a qualitatively new level".
It was agreed to organise joint events to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker Makhtumkuli Fraghi.
The Uzbek side reports that economic cooperation plays an important role in the relations between the two countries and mutual trade exchange totalled about one billion dollars in 2022.
"The sides have sufficient opportunities and potential to increase the indicator in this regard. To this end, it is necessary to effectively use the activities of the joint commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation."
The 1,650km border with Uzbekistan is Turkmenistan's longest. The two countries have agreed to develop cross-border trade and cooperate in international freight transport.
