In the wake of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's official visit to Egypt in February, bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Egypt are experiencing a significant boost. This positive trajectory was further underscored during a recent meeting between Ambassador Mansurbek Kilichev, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan, and Ahmed Shahin, the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt.
The meeting delved into the outcomes of President Mirziyoyev's visit, acknowledging its pivotal role in intensifying the diplomatic ties between the two nations. Both representatives discussed the implementation of the agreements outlined in the "Road Map," a strategic document crafted during the joint summit held at the highest level.
A major focus of the discussions centered around the expansion of economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt. Notably, several leading Egyptian companies have made strides in entering the Uzbekistan market. Among these companies are industry giants like Elsewedy Electric, Orascom, In2Metals, Nile Sugar, Polyserve, Pharco, Solyphar, and ACDIMA.
The entry of these prominent companies into the Uzbek market signals a commitment to fostering economic ties and opens avenues for mutual growth. The sectors span various industries, including energy, construction, metals, and pharmaceuticals, highlighting the diversification of collaboration between the two nations.
The discussions also broached the prospect of organizing "Culture Days of Uzbekistan" in Egypt, further solidifying the cultural exchange between the two countries. This initiative aims to enhance mutual understanding, strengthen people-to-people connections, and promote a deeper appreciation of each other's rich cultural heritage.
The Arab Republic of Egypt stood at the forefront, swiftly acknowledging the sovereignty of the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 26, 1991. The establishment of diplomatic ties swiftly followed on January 23, 1992. A significant milestone was reached in May 1993 with the inauguration of the Egyptian embassy in the vibrant capital city of Tashkent. Reciprocating this diplomatic synergy, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Egypt commenced its operations in December 1994.
