Presidential Assistant Saida Mirziyoyeva recently convened a meeting with Teresa Ribeiro, the representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on media freedom issues.
The meeting delved into the complexities surrounding freedom of speech, highlighting the emergence and, at times, the escalation of conflicts in this critical area. Saida Mirziyoyeva and Teresa Ribeiro engaged in a comprehensive discussion on both the challenges and opportunities that currently define the global landscape of media freedom.
"At present, we have had a meeting with Teresa Ribeiro, the representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on issues of media freedom. We delved into the conflicts that are arising and, at times, escalating worldwide concerning freedom of speech, as well as the potential opportunities within this field," remarked Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Central to the conversation was the ongoing process of enhancing legislation pertaining to mass media, with a particular focus on the development of a draft information code. Mirziyoyeva emphasized the paramount importance of preserving the positive changes observed in the media sector over recent years while concurrently ensuring the protection of journalists.
"Currently, we are in the process of improving legislation on mass media. The draft information code is being developed. It is very important for us to preserve the positive changes that have taken place in the media sector in recent years and to protect journalists. It is within this topic that we discussed future joint projects," stated Saida Mirziyoyeva.
