7th meeting of Turkic States' transport ministers in Azerbaijan: focus on cooperation and digitization

7th meeting of Turkic States' transport ministers in Azerbaijan: focus on cooperation and digitization

The 7th meeting of the ministers of transport from member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) took place in Zangilan, Azerbaijan, marking a significant step towards enhancing collaboration in the realm of transportation. The meeting, held on November 16, delved into crucial issues such as fostering cooperation, digitization of transit transportation processes, and other matters of mutual interest.

During the gathering, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Makhkamov, played a pivotal role by presenting a series of proposals aimed at fortifying transport-related ties among member states. Makhkamov's proposals underscored the commitment to advancing the transport sector within the organization.

One notable proposal suggested the establishment of a council of railway authorities within the Organization during the next meeting of the heads of railway administrations. This council would be tasked with defining its principal functions and responsibilities, aiming to streamline railway-related activities among member states.

Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the acceleration of the digitization process concerning customs clearance of goods and shipping documents. Projects such as E-Permit, E-TIR, and E-Transit were highlighted as key initiatives to expedite these procedures. The move towards digitization aims to enhance efficiency, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and facilitate smoother cross-border transportation.

Minister Makhkamov also stressed the necessity of creating favorable conditions for international car transportation. This involves simplifying visa procedures, reducing various fees and charges, and increasing the quota of permit forms, all aimed at promoting seamless and cost-effective cross-border travel.

The outcome of the meeting was encapsulated in a communiqué signed by the transport ministers of the OTS member countries. This document signifies a collective commitment to fostering cooperation, embracing digitization, and facilitating easier international transportation among the participating nations.
