The 28th Tashkent International Tourism Fair “Tourism on the Silk Road” began on 15th November as more than 1,500 local and international participants joined at the annual event.
At the opening ceremony, Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, summarized the progress of the tourism sector of the country and shared his expectations for tourism in 2024.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has significantly improved the investment and business climate for tourism. This includes the introduction of tax breaks and simplified procedures; and also subsidies for the construction of new hotels, the introduction of international hotel brands, and the organization of charter flights. Uzbekistan’s tourism infrastructure is still developing.
Thanks to the ongoing reforms in the tourism sector of Uzbekistan, the number of foreign tourists has tripled since 2017. At the end of this year, we expect 7 mn foreign travellers and plan to reach the mark of 10 mn next year.
The fair is being attended by 20 foreign countries such as the Czech Republic, Malaysia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Thailand, and Russia, as well as stands representing 14 regions of Uzbekistan, and many private companies including airlines, hotels, and travel and transport businesses.
The event is set to include several talks and presentations involving the development of tourism such as “The Role of Culture in Tourism Development of the Country”, the “Presentation of New Tourist Destinations”, and “Sustainable Tourism”. As well as a tourism expo, one of the main exhibits is the gastro-bazaar, with famous domestic and international chefs.
Some of the partners of the event include Uzbekistan Airways, Asia Alliance Bank, Dunyo Bo'ylab, and Profi Travel.
