Kyrgyzstan’s exports to Russia saw a slight increase of 1.1% in the first nine months of 2022, reaching a total of $554 mn, up from $547.6 mn during the same period in 2021, according to the National State Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic. Despite this growth, the overall trade turnover between the two countries fell by 17% to $1.979 bn, primarily due to a reduction in imports from Russia to Kyrgyzstan.
Russia accounts for 18.3% of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade, with 26.3% of the republic’s exports being supplied to the Russian market, the highest rate among all partner countries. In contrast, all European countries combined account for 12.7% of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade.
In terms of regional trade, Kyrgyzstan’s exports to Central Asian countries amounted to $210.3 mn in the first nine months of 2022. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan remain the main trading partners, accounting for 57% ($239.1 mn) and 43% ($181.2 mn) of Kyrgyzstan’s exports, respectively. The exports mainly consist of food products and agricultural raw materials, including meat, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, and tobacco.
There has been a significant increase in the supply of meat and meat products to Kazakhstan (+80%) and Uzbekistan (+119%). Exports of dairy products, vegetables, and fruits have also seen an upward trend. Kyrgyzstan exported goods worth $5.4 mn to Turkmenistan, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2021, and $19.7 mn to Tajikistan, a decrease of 5%.
