In a strategic move, Russian e-commerce giant Ozon has officially launched sales operations in Uzbekistan, signaling its entry into one of Central Asia's largest economies. The company has outlined ambitious plans for the Uzbek market, aiming to establish a robust presence through the development of logistics infrastructure and the introduction of new services.
At the initial stage of its operations in Uzbekistan, Ozon allows customers across the country to place orders, with delivery options available at partner points and 1,660 Uzbekistan Pochtasi branches. The company emphasizes that this initial phase is designed to provide accessibility to a wide audience, with an average delivery time of 12 days.
Looking forward, Ozon has set its sights on significant expansion. In 2024, the e-commerce giant intends to invest in building its logistics infrastructure within Uzbekistan. This investment will encompass the establishment of warehouse complexes, enhanced delivery services, and the creation of a franchise network featuring branded pick-up points. The primary objective behind these initiatives is to notably reduce delivery times, enhancing the overall customer experience.
"Uzbekistan is one of the largest economies in Central Asia and a country with great potential for the development of e-commerce. We already offer residents of the republic more than 100mn product items and will continue to develop infrastructure to offer them new opportunities for convenient online shopping," stated Alexey Sapon, Director of Operations and Development of Ozon in the CIS.
As part of its commitment to the local business community, Ozon plans to organize training events for local entrepreneurs, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. Additionally, the company expresses its intention to actively contribute to the improvement of regulatory frameworks governing e-commerce and cross-border trade mechanisms in Uzbekistan.
Ozon's entry into Uzbekistan follows its successful business development in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) since 2021. With established logistics infrastructure in countries such as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, Ozon has emerged as a comprehensive marketplace, offering a diverse range of products spanning over 20 categories.
