Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov engaged in a meeting at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris with the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay on November 10. Prior to their discussions, Japarov left a kind entry in the UNESCO Book of Honored Visitors, extending well wishes to the Organization.
Azoulay welcomed the President, expressing gratitude for Kyrgyzstan's positive engagement in the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. She highlighted Kyrgyzstan's active role in the Organization, particularly emphasizing the nation's initiatives aimed at preserving glaciers, initiatives that receive support from UNESCO. She also underlined their preparedness for extensive collaboration.
The Director-General commended Kyrgyzstan's proactive stance in cooperating with UNESCO for the protection of cultural and historical heritage worldwide.
In response, President Japarov acknowledged Audrey Azoulay's personal efforts in driving successful reforms, particularly regarding the strategic transformation ongoing in UNESCO, notably in reforming regional offices. He conveyed Kyrgyzstan’s decision to seek re-election to UNESCO's governing body, emphasizing the country’s readiness to actively contribute to UNESCO's core areas and its overall principles.
Japarov highlighted the significance Kyrgyzstan attaches to UNESCO's support in conserving glaciers and managing water resources. Touching upon environmental concerns, the President emphasized Kyrgyzstan's steadfast commitment to ecological matters, particularly the preservation of biodiversity, ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for future generations, and the judicious use of natural resources in line with sustainable development principles.
Both parties expressed their commitment to expanding cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNESCO. This includes educational initiatives, preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and plans for future joint programs.
