A mission from the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has arrived in Ashgabat to take part in the preparation of the Memorandum on Foreign Trade Regime (MFTR).
The Director of the WTO Accession Department, Maika Oshikawa, noted in the social network X "significant progress" in the activities of the interdepartmental commission headed by the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan.
The submission of this document is one of the conditions for accession to the WTO.
"Glad to see that partners are forthcoming and responsive to the evolving accession needs as the MFTR preparation advances, especially in legislation, training and analysis".
Turkmenistan became a "candidate country" in February 2022.
Experts say Turkmenistan will have to liberalise trade by removing barriers such as import tariffs, quotas, export subsidies, dumping practices and other rules that restrict the free flow of trade.
