In a move to enhance energy cooperation, the Government of Uzbekistan and Gazprom, Russia's energy giant, have signed a strategic memorandum that outlines the future of their collaboration in the field of gas supply and transportation. The memorandum was signed during the St. Petersburg International Gazing Forum in 2023.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzammakhmudov, and Gazprom's Chairman, Alexei Miller. This memorandum signifies a crucial step in the development of the partnership between the two entities, with a particular focus on the exchange of natural gas resources.
The central point of discussion during the Forum was the delivery of Russian gas to Uzbekistan, which commenced in October 2023. The gas supply is a significant development, and it was emphasized that the newly established route, based on the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline system, plays a vital role in ensuring a stable supply of gas to Uzbekistan, especially during the challenging autumn-winter period.
The strategic memorandum signed by Jurabek Mirzammakhmudov and Alexei Miller outlines the framework for future cooperation in the energy sector. This partnership will extend to various aspects, including gas supply and transportation, geological exploration, and hydrocarbon production. The agreement solidifies the commitment of both parties to work closely together to ensure a sustainable and reliable source of energy for Uzbekistan.
