Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, has attributed attempts to disrupt stability in the region to foreign adversaries of Russia. He stated that these efforts involve the use of illicit methods aimed at provoking ethnic and religious conflicts within Dagestan.
Melikov made these remarks during a press briefing, emphasizing that these actions are orchestrated by those opposed to the Russian state.
Furthermore, he pointed to a specific Telegram channel, "Daghestan Tong," which has been promoting public rallies and asserted that it is being controlled from Ukraine. This information has been verified as credible, Melikov claims.
Melikov also reported that two police officers sustained injuries during the disturbances at Makhachkala airport. The unrest erupted when a plane from Israel arrived on the night of October 30, prompting a crowd to breach the terminal building and runway in search of individuals of Jewish descent. As a result, the Federal Aviation Administration closed the airport until October 31.
The Ministry of Health in Dagestan confirmed that over 20 individuals were injured during the incidents, with ten requiring hospitalization, including two in critical condition.
