Uzbekistan proposes new economic dialogue program for SCO

Uzbekistan proposes new economic dialogue program for SCO

Uzbekistan's Prime Minister, Abdulla Aripov, addressed the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek on October 26, Gazeta.uz reported.

During his speech, he proposed launching a new program for economic dialogue focused on advancing high technologies.

Aripov highlighted that this program should encompass various domains, including innovation, digitalization, robotics, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors shaping the industries of the future. He also revealed plans to host an "Innovation Partnership Week" in Uzbekistan in 2024, inviting SCO member states to participate in a joint high-tech exhibition.

Additionally, Aripov emphasized the significance of enhancing regional connectivity within the SCO, particularly in the context of key infrastructure projects like the "North-South" and "East-West" transport corridors. He advocated for the start of practical work on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, calling for the expansion of multimodal transportation along this route. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of using Afghanistan as a gateway to South Asian and Middle Eastern markets through simplified food supply mechanisms, especially in the context of the agricultural industry's global supply chain disruptions, which have contributed to rising food prices.

Aripov referred to the urgent issue of food security, which has gained prominence in light of the complexities within the global economy and its implications on food supply chains. He noted that these challenges had been discussed during an international conference on food security in Samarkand in early September, with the participation of SCO representatives. The conference underlined the necessity of implementing collaborative measures to develop smart agriculture and water resource management.

In addition, the Uzbek Prime Minister proposed the joint development of accessible cross-regional tourism products among SCO member states. He emphasized the importance of fostering closer collaboration between tourism authorities, leading tour operators, airlines, and specialized educational institutions in the field of tourism across SCO countries. This cooperation aims to stimulate tourism and strengthen ties within the SCO.

Aripov's comprehensive proposals highlight Uzbekistan's commitment to fostering regional cooperation and innovative development within the SCO framework. The implementation of these initiatives could have a significant impact on various sectors and contribute to regional economic growth and connectivity.
