Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, recently met with Valdis Dombrovskis, Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, in Brussels to discuss a wide-ranging agenda of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, with a particular focus on economic collaboration. This landmark meeting not only emphasized the desire to further strengthen economic ties but also saw the signing of a financial agreement to support an agriculture project.
"We met with H.E. Valdis Dombrovskis, Deputy Chairman of the European Commission. During our conversation, we discussed the broad agenda of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, especially in the economic direction," in a statement shared on his Telegram channel, Minister Saidov remarked.
Key topics of discussion during the meeting included the expansion of mutual trade, boosting export figures to the European market, supporting Uzbekistan's World Trade Organization (WTO) membership, and fostering cooperation regarding essential raw materials.
The signing of a financial agreement for an agricultural project marked a significant step in deepening economic collaboration between Uzbekistan and the European Commission. This project is expected to promote sustainable agricultural practices, improve agricultural infrastructure, and enhance the overall agricultural sector in Uzbekistan.
Subsequently, Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov traveled to Luxembourg to participate in the 19th meeting of ministers "European Union - Central Asia." During this gathering, ministers from Uzbekistan and other Central Asian nations reviewed the progress achieved through comprehensive cooperation and outlined their primary priorities for the upcoming year.
Additionally, Minister Saidov seized the opportunity to engage with several European officials to strengthen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for further cooperation. He met with Jutta Urpilainen, the EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, to discuss mutual cooperation efforts and development projects.
Furthermore, the Minister discussed bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Austria with Alexander Schallenberg, the Federal Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of Austria. This meeting aimed to bolster diplomatic ties and explore avenues for collaboration in various fields.
In a similar vein, Minister Saidov held discussions with the Romanian Foreign Minister, Luminita Odobescu, to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The talks encompassed diplomatic cooperation, trade, and cultural exchanges, highlighting the commitment of both nations to deepen their partnership.
