Uzbekistan and Belarus strengthen ties: 42% increase in trade volume and ambitious $1bn target

The delegation of the government of Uzbekistan, led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, held a significant bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, on October 25 in Bishkek, as part of the larger meetings of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Eurasian Economic Union.

The discussions highlighted the growing and mutually beneficial relationship between the two nations, focusing on trade, cooperation, and cultural exchange.

The meeting between Prime Minister Aripov and Prime Minister Golovchenko underscored the consistent development of multilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus, firmly rooted in the spirit of friendship and partnership. The open and reliable communication between the leaders of these countries has been a pivotal factor in strengthening their ties.

During the discussions, the Uzbek side extended an invitation to their Belarusian counterparts to hold the tenth meeting of the intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation and the second interregional forum in Tashkent by the end of this year. This gesture underscores Uzbekistan's commitment to further deepening its cooperation with Belarus across various sectors.

Trade relations between the two countries have been thriving, with a remarkable 42% increase in trade volume recorded last year. Both governments have set ambitious goals for the future, with a joint commitment to increasing the trade volume to an impressive $1bn in the coming years. This ambitious target reflects the growing economic ties between the nations.

The high-level negotiations also saw discussions on expanding trade and industrial cooperation, as well as the development of collaboration in agriculture, and cultural and humanitarian spheres. These discussions signify a shared commitment to diversify and strengthen the economic and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Belarus.
