An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred in the south of Turkmenistan, 22 km from the settlement of Yolöten in the Mary region of Turkmenistan, on 17 October 2023 at 19:17 universal time, Volcano Discovery reports.
The source of the tremors was at a very shallow depth of 10km.
To the south of the city is one of the world's largest gas fields, Galkynysh, with industrial infrastructure. In the Yolöten itself there is a cotton gin.
