Online search trends for the Uzbek language are soaring in 2023, hitting their highest levels in more than ten years. The recent study, carried out by the interpreting and translation services website uzbekistanservices.com
Google searches for key phrases including 'English to Uzbek,' 'Uzbek,' 'learn Uzbek,' and 'Uzbek language' have demonstrated a remarkable rise. Notably, the search term 'English to Uzbek' attained its peak last month, registering an astonishing twenty-fold increase in search volume compared to the same period in 2019.
Although Google doesn’t reveal the exact number of searches per month, the researchers estimated the term ‘English to Uzbek’ to have been searched at least 60,000 times last month. The vast majority of the searches are performed within Uzbekistan followed by users in India and the USA.
The translation and interpretation company speculated that various factors may underpin this surge. One possible contributing factor is the substantial rise in tourism, which has experienced a remarkable 60% surge during the first half of this year compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. This influx of tourists may be driving interest in the Uzbek language.
Another contributing factor could be the increasing number of international students electing to pursue higher education in Uzbekistan. Over the past five years, the population of international students enrolled in Uzbek universities has shown steady growth and reached 5,000 in 2023.
The data paints a portrait of the global intrigue of the Uzbek language and may suggest a resurgence in tourism and education on an international stage. Whether driven by an interest in tourism, academic aspirations, or broader cultural curiosity, it is evident that the Uzbek language is experiencing a revival in popularity.
