Starting in spring 2024, all foreign movies shown in Kyrgyzstan's cinemas will include Kyrgyz subtitles, as confirmed by the State Cinema Center "KyrgyzTasmas."
This arrangement has been reached in collaboration with major distributors of foreign films in the country. Talantbek Tolobekov, the Director of "KyrgyzTasmas," described the addition of subtitles as the initial step towards addressing the dubbing of foreign films into the Kyrgyz language.
He emphasized that this approach is more financially feasible compared to full dubbing and synchronous voiceovers. This development follows the implementation of an updated law on the state language in Kyrgyzstan, which has reinforced the status of the Kyrgyz language.
The new law mandates the use of the Kyrgyz language in various sectors, including education, science, culture, media, and document management, among others. Additionally, the law requires all government employees to be proficient in Kyrgyz.
