During the High-Level Week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Kyrgyzstan's President, Sadyr Japarov, had a meeting with Woochong Um, the Managing Director General of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss key areas of collaborative projects and programs between Kyrgyzstan and ADB, with a particular focus on the new partnership strategy for the Kyrgyz Republic spanning from 2023 to 2027.
President Japarov underscored the significance of ADB as a trusted partner for Kyrgyzstan, highlighting their enduring cooperation in critical development sectors over several years. He also emphasized ADB's role as the primary foreign donor in terms of official financial assistance. Additionally, Japarov extended an invitation to ADB to provide funding for the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power station and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
In response, Wuchong Um affirmed that the Kyrgyz Republic holds a crucial position as a partner for the bank. He expressed ADB's readiness to broaden and reinforce their collaboration, particularly in the execution of substantial strategic projects, including those within the energy sector. Um recognized Kyrgyzstan's commendable economic achievements in the past year and emphasized the importance of transitioning to major strategic projects, expressing ADB's willingness to actively participate in such endeavors.
