Romania, a NATO member, is constructing concrete bomb shelters near its Ukraine border, Euronews reports.
These shelters aim to protect the local population from drones and missiles that have landed in Romanian territory as a result of Russian attacks on Ukrainian targets along the border.
Romanian military forces remain on high alert. The construction of these shelters was discussed by Romania's Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu.
Marcel Ciolacu, Prime Minister of Romania:
"The shelters we're currently building may not be aesthetically pleasing as they are being erected swiftly. Nonetheless, the local residents have not felt secure, and we have endeavored to provide them with some level of protection. We intend to invest in fortifying all villages, particularly those situated near the border, given the actions taken by the Russian Federation. I would rather not delve into the specifics; these pertain to military matters."
It was disclosed on September 13, that debris, believed to be from Russian drones, was found roughly fourteen kilometers from the Ukrainian border. In the early hours, Russia conducted airstrikes on the river ports of Izmail and Reni, located on the Ukrainian side of the Danube.
This is not the initial occurrence of such an event, nor is it the first time that remnants of presumed Russian UAVs have landed within the territory of a NATO member nation.
