Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian president, responded to a query regarding Vladimir Putin's potential involvement in the 2024 presidential elections, TASS reports.
As per Peskov, Putin has not yet disclosed his intentions regarding participation in the upcoming presidential elections. Nonetheless, he emphasized that "if the president does decide to put forth his candidacy, the current political landscape in our nation lacks a genuine contender for the presidency," Peskov asserted.
The Russian presidential election, in accordance with the prevailing electoral regulations of the country, is scheduled for March 17, 2024.
While Putin himself refrained from explicitly confirming his candidacy in the elections, he underscored that retaining his right to be elected for another term would contribute to stability within Russia.
It was previously reported that the majority of potential candidates for the 2024 Russian elections are expected to be above the age of 40, with the intention of not making Putin "appear old."
The estimated candidates include Gennady Zyuganov of the Communist Party of Russia, Leonid Slutsky from the Liberal Democratic Party, Alexei Nechayev from "New People," Vladislav Davankov, a deputy of the 8th State Duma. All of them have been working for the state for a prolonged period of time, making them part of the same political structure.
